A proud history of firsts that continues to this day:

• First in Maryland to perform a "domino" or sequential liver transplant (2005)

• First in the U.S. to implant a heart pump as "destination therapy" for patients who are not eligible for a heart transplant (2004)

• First hospital within the U.S. to use Statscan, a low-dose X-ray that captures full-body image in 13 seconds, saving critical time in Shock Trauma's "Golden Hour" (2003)

• Among the first in the nation to use islet cell transplants to treat type 1 diabetes (2002)
