At UMMC, our practitioners are fluent in the latest respiratory techniques and use
the most sophisticated equipment available. In fact, there are therapists who have been in the field
for years who have never used some of the techniques that we employ here every day.
It is not unusual for a single practitioner to provide routine care to various patients while applying our ventilator management protocol to others. This could include pressure control types of ventilation, oscillation, and alternative gas therapies such as nitric oxide and heliox.
Learning new and innovative ways of doing things is routine at UMMC.
Our academic setting gives respiratory care practitioners the opportunities to grow in skill and knowledge
that you won't find anywhere else. You'll work with experts in a wide variety of disciplines, experience
modes of ventilation you won't see at a community hospital facility, and participate in national studies
that advance new treatments and techniques and have lasting impact on patient care. It's a fast-paced,
intense and exciting environment where your skills, your knowledge and your confidence can soar.
At UMMC, we understand the vital role respiratory care plays in patient recovery. Here, you're
more than a technician. You are an integral part of a multidisciplinary team where your input is
valued and respected. You'll work closely with doctors, nurses, specialists—right at the patient's
side—and be involved in important decisions in your patient's course of care.
