At the Department of Emergency Medicine, we meet the needs of the 46,000 patients who visit us each year by providing a broad range of services: medical and surgical emergency services, a Chest Pain Evaluation Center, Rape Crisis Center, medical direction and oversight for psychiatric emergencies, and Maryland ExpressCare, which provides consultation with specialists, patient admission coordination and transportation for critically ill patients.
- Rapid Diagnostic Unit – treats patients with relatively straightforward conditions that don't require extensive tests or consultation
- Adult ER – features 54 private exam rooms and advanced digital radiological equipment (CT scans, ultrasound and x-ray), and a comfortable waiting area
- Pediatric Emergency – 16 treatment areas, many glass enclosed, provide a quiet, safe environment that enhances patient and family comfort
- Psychiatric Urgent Care – provides urgent psychiatric assessment, valuation and referral, as well as consultation services, to Adult and Pediatric Emergency
